What Flood Zone is an independently maintained website for homeowners, buyers and local property researchers. It brings an address lookup, FEMA zone explanations and official NFIP insurance statistics together in one place. It is not operated by, endorsed by or affiliated with FEMA.
What the site does
The tool asks the Census Geocoder to locate an address, then asks FEMA for the mapped designation at that point. The place pages use official published policy and loss reports. The methodology explains the limits and source dates.
What needs official verification
A geocoded point does not locate a building footprint accurately enough for a lending decision. Lenders use a Standard Flood Hazard Determination Form. Use FEMA’s Map Service Center, your local floodplain administrator and qualified professionals when a decision depends on the boundary.
