LOMA and LOMR-F: how a flood map changes

FEMA can amend a map when site-specific evidence establishes that land or a building meets the applicable elevation criteria.

LOMA: natural ground

A Letter of Map Amendment generally addresses a property or structure on naturally high ground. It is an official FEMA determination, based on a complete application and supporting evidence.

LOMR-F: land raised by fill

A Letter of Map Revision Based on Fill addresses qualifying land or buildings elevated by fill. The criteria and documentation differ from those of a LOMA; local floodplain rules continue to matter.

What happens to insurance

A successful removal from the Special Flood Hazard Area may affect the federal purchase requirement. Your lender can still require coverage. Speak with the lender and insurer before cancelling a policy.
